He highlights the importance of focus and adding value to your service to capture and serve your audience well.

If you’re looking into revamping your strategy in helping your audience, then this episode is perfect for you.

About Our Guest:

Brian Keith is the principal at Red Beard Consulting, where he utilizes his framework to coach conscious business owners. Brian and Red Beard Consulting are Infusionsoft-Certified Partners. He is an entrepreneur, marketing, and Infusionsoft genius. Brian and his team assist entrepreneurs on how to maximize and leverage the power of Infusionsoft with some key strategies for success.

Nuts & Bolts of InfusionSoft Automation Experience

Brian’s Background

  • As a kid, his parents both ran their own companies.
  • His earliest memories are licking stamps and getting paid half a cent for their company flyers.

The Power of Focus

  • The major challenge for him in his development as an entrepreneur is the focus.
  • Entrepreneurs start a business to fix a problem.
  • Before someone figures out what they want to fix, they usually get distracted with other things.
  • This distraction is rooted in a fear of missing out.

When Entrepreneurs Fail

  • As entrepreneurs, we are afraid of putting out a product, and then the market ends up not liking it.
  • Naturally, we do not want to make promises that we can’t keep. One of our self-defence mechanisms is doing multiple things at once, so when one or two of them fail, it doesn’t impact as much.
  • Focus also entails believing that there’s something on the other side.
  • Entrepreneurs are people who chose to take on more risk than one otherwise would, in pursuit of a new road that they wouldn’t get as an employee.

Advice for Entrepreneurs Struggling with Automation

  • One of Brian’s clients, Laura Posey, says, ‘Stop doing things that are new and instead follow somebody else’s model.’
  • If you’re trying to do something truly new, consider why you’re trying to do that.
  • Anything worth doing has already been done by somebody else. You need to take advantage of automation and take a different approach; you need a reason to believe that your model is going to work.
  • Have a different focus that makes you attractive.
  • Instead of offering individual subscriptions a month on Red Bear Consultation, Brian offers them customized team training, which no one does.
  • He previously tried to put out software before but failed. Now, he finds success in tweaking the models and niches that already work.

The Best Automation Advice in Business Brian Has Received

  • Try to figure out what’s going on to make your content. Then go and do that and let go of everything else.
  • To simplify automation takes only two steps: (1) to identify the essential and (2) to get rid of everything else.
  • Find a single theme that would fit all the themes that you are interested in. Find out how they impact your life and how it would make you happy.
  • Figure out what makes you happy by continually asking yourself that question.

Finding Contentment in Life

  • Brian’s grandfather had a stroke and is now barely able to speak. But he is happy, and you can see in his eyes that he’s content.
  • This contentment may partly be due to religion, but most of it is due to focus.
  • His grandfather is content with life because he focused on something he could do that would be rewarding.
  • Ask yourself, ‘If I die tonight, will I be content?’
  • Brendon Burchard’s core teachings: ‘Did I live? Did I love? Did I matter?’
  • You need to get to a place of grace regardless of your religious place.

Serving Your Audience

  • Marketers and business people often get greedy not only for money but also for fame and glory.
  • We have to be self-centred to some extent, but a lot of us take it overboard frequently.
  • Don’t be a jerk. Focus on whether you are giving your customer value through communication.
  • If you focus on making sure that your audiences are doing well, you’re going to be happier and better as a marketer or entrepreneur.
  • Seth Godin: ‘You need to make sure it’s good, that what you’re doing is virtuous.’
  • When you are in there with your calling, you may not see the impact of what you’re doing on the people around you.
  • Don’t worry about how you look; worry about whether your audience is getting something.
  • The question is, whom can you serve so much that some of that value can come back to you in a way?

Solving Your Customer’s Problems through Automation

  • It’s important to know whether you’re answering a real problem.
  • Some people are not willing to pay to fix a problem. What Brian does is to figure out how to target fixing a problem right.

Scaling Your Business through Automation

  • It’s how big your audiences are.
  • The amount of money companies are willing to pay for automation Internet marketing is substantially different from how much Brian had to charge to make a good business run.
  • Brian failed to fit the right service offering to a market. However, he has a reputation that he has built up over the years in the community. That reputation laid the foundation for the University.
  • Instead of trying to sell folks on something that isn’t right for them, try to move on to the next thing while still serving them and being good at it.
  • The first question you should ask yourself is, ‘Am I actually serving people?’ The second is, ‘Can I get paid?’

Being an Entrepreneur

  • Think about under what conditions you would quit being an entrepreneur.
  • Create something awesome that benefits a lot of people.
  • Edward Bach: ‘It is the young man of true conception who says, “I am everything” and then goes to prove it.’
  • A lot of people don’t have the freedom to create in a way that will most benefit the world. So figure out what is big enough that you’re going to do.

Giving Value to Your Audience

  • Maybe you want to serve a community whom you can’t directly serve. That doesn’t mean you can’t serve them. Maybe you have to have some other role that can help them.
  • Know who you want to serve and then share something that adds value in a way that was not there before.
  • If you keep on adding value to them, you’ll continue to have this spot in their mind and their hearts.
